Grad Trip - Photo of the Day 12

May 3, visited the nearby town of Fiesole before heading down to Rome. Fiesole is a small town that overlooks Florence, and is known for its Roman ruins. Wouldn't have known about this place if not for the Eye Witness guidebook I'd borrowed from the library back in Singapore though. Anyway it took us a long time to find the ruins, as the map in the book was drawn wrongly. There was at least two others who were trying to find the place based on the book's map and got lost, like us!

Met a cat along the way...

It was a great relief when we finally got there. This is the Roman theatre, one of the main features of the site:

Plenty of pretty little wild flowers all over the grounds too:

And because Fiesole is a less well-known destination, there were only a few other visitors in the park that day, which gave me a chance to try out some lit shots. This was probably the best shot, though I wished I could have positioned just one more light in the background to make it more interesting:

After a slow tour of the site, it was time to head back to Florence and catch the train to Rome. We took the cheapest train -- 16 euros one-way -- and it also turned out to be the wrong option. For some reason, the train engine broke down halfway through, and we were delayed by an hour. So a 4-hour journey became a 5-hour one. Eurostar would have taken us just 2 hours. Sigh. And don't get me started on the hostel we booked...
